BEIJING, July 28 (Xinhuanet) -- The London Olympic Committee started preparations for the games shortly after winning its bid for the 2012 Olympics. On June 4th, 2007, the official logo designed by Wolff Olins was unveiled. The logo represents the number 2012, with the Olympic rings embedded within the number zero. Its colors are green, magenta, orange and blue. Britain's national Union Flag was used to promote the handover ceremony in 2008.
On May 19th, 2010, the official mascots for the 2012 Olympics were unveiled. Wenlock and Mandeville are animated figures depicting steel from a steelworks in Bolton. The Olympic torch was unveiled on June 8th this year. Made of aluminum, the torch measures 80 centimeters long and weighs 800 grams. The gold-colored torch is dotted with 8,000 holes, representing the 8,000 bearers who will carry the torch.
The triangular-shaped torch symbolizes the three Olympic values of friendship, excellence and respect. It also represents the three times London has hosted the Olympic Games. The city previously hosted the 1908 and 1948 Olympics. The 70-day 2012 torch relay begins on May 19th next year and wraps up on July 27th when the games' opening ceremony will be held.
