William and Kate head for Calgary

CALGARY, Canada — After a whirlwind week charming the Canadian public, Prince William and Catherine arrived in Calgary for rodeo chuck wagon races and bull riding.

At the last stop on their nine-day tour of Canada and first official foreign trip together since tying the knot in May, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were to take in the city's annual Stampede rodeo, billed as "the greatest outdoor show on Earth."

The festival revives agricultural fair return to the lonely cowboy western riding the open range, attracting a million visitors each year for the Rocky Mountain foothills.

William and Catherine, who wore a bright yellow, arrived by helicopter on Thursday from a romantic getaway at the Inn Skoki rustic, built in 1930 in the majestic Rocky Mountains, about a dozen kilometers (seven miles ) from Lake Louise in Banff National Park.

The nearby lake is named after Louise Caroline Alberta, fourth daughter of William famous ancestor Queen Victoria.

According to public broadcaster CBC, the plumbing was just installed in the wooden cabin Skoki few weeks before visiting the couple.

At Calgary Airport, William and Catherine were greeted by crowds of cheering crowds.

Some royal fans had camped in tents and sleeping bags since Tuesday hoping for a glimpse of the couple.

Calgary has also distributed some 5,600 inhabitants wristbands giving access to two areas that have been William and Catherine to visit on Thursday. Some of them could be found for sale on the Internet hundreds of dollars.

"I love Will and Kate," Katrina Bowman, who won a bracelet free, told the Calgary Sun. "I was up all night watching their marriage ... and I knew I had to see them when they came to Calgary."

Leaving the tarmac with gifts of white, cowboy hat with a wide brim made locally from rabbit fur (not used), the royal couple went to the rodeo, and later for dinner with the Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

In the morning they climb into the opening parade of the Stampede with 850 "parade-broken" horses, bands and floats, cowboys and clowns, and local Woodland Cree, Chipewyan, Blackfoot, members of the Blood and Peigan tribe in traditional dress with their horses pearls.

More than 300,000 supporters are expected along the parade route in downtown Friday, officials said.

Finally, the couple will leave Canada on Friday after a visit to the Calgary Zoo, and head to Los Angeles for a three-day visit to the U.S. state of West Coast of California.
