G. Love & Special Sauce announce return to Boston
Combines G. Love originals with covers of Paul Simon, the Velvet Underground and more. Working with the legendary siblings was an eye-opening experience for the artist.“It was an emotional recording session and I was truly blown away by the level of focus, care and passion Scott and Seth brought to it,” said G. Love in a press release. “We felt connected the entire time – it was instantaneous. It always feels like crunch time in the studio but it never felt like that with these guys. It was a team thing, no drama, no agenda. It was a tremendously positive and encouraging experience. This is the most inspired I’ve ever felt making a record – let’s just put it that way. I’m still buzzing about it.”
Recorded in a little over a week, Fixin’ To Die is a step away from hip-hop and more towards country blues, surely inspired by the surroundings at the Echo Mountain Studios in Asheville, North Carolina.
“There’s a little bit of this record on all the previous G. Love records, you just had to look for it,” added Scott Avett, who also plays on the album. “This is the record we all knew he should make and he could make, but again, he had to open himself to the core to make it. That’s the difference. Ultimately the songs tell us what needs to happen; it’s just our job to be prepared and identify that. Let’s just get in there and see what the room evokes, and it was just go, go, go, which is the way we like it. I mean the whole session was cut in just over a week.

Early afternoon at the Green stage, the perfect time for a bit of groovy and slightly hippie flavored tunes from the multi talented G. Love. It is always great to see someone who can move back and forth between instruments like he can, playing his 6 string as well as he can play his harmonica. While it is all very well and good to hear messages of peace and love, it is also refreshing to get a bit silly and listen to lyrics about the beauty of the simple things in life. Well G. Love started off his set with a song about the joys of drinking coffee in the morning and how much he likes his with milk and sugar. His bluesy, folk infused grooves make an interesting canvas for him to lay his occasional raps on to. His is definitely feel good music and although the crowd were a little bit lethargic, there were still quite a few people who couldn’t help but start dancing when he played that harmonica of his so sweetly.
