Milford teens 'Do Something'
As part of the fourth annual Staples for Students campaign (www.staplesforstudents.org), the stars of “Pretty Little Liars,” -- Lucy Hale, Troian Bellisario, Ashley Benson, and Shay Mitchell -- are encouraging Milford teens to make a difference this summer by collecting school supplies and dropping them off at their nearest Staples store from now through Sept. 17. In addition, Staples customers will be able to get involved by donating $1 or more at any Staples store, with 100 percent of the proceeds benefiting Milford students in need. “We are all thrilled to be the force behind this year’s Staples for Students campaign,” said Lucy Hale. “After participating in last year’s backpack stuffing event and sharing my experience with my cast-mates, we all knew we wanted to be a part of this great cause which encourages teens to make a difference and help students in need start the school year off right.” “It’s hard to imagine sending your kids back to school without proper supplies, but the reality is that countless students face this challenge every year, “said Christine Mallon, vice president of retail marketing at Staples. “With help from our celebrity partners, Staples is ready to rally teens and the public to get out and do something for kids who need our help the most this upcoming school year.” To further demonstrate support for DoSomething.org , Staples is continuing with their line of DoSomething.org -inspired products. This year’s products feature designs developed by students who won a contest to have their creative artwork showcased on products at Staples stores. These designs inspire fellow teens to take action in their community and are available at Staples retail stores.

MOUNDSVILLE -- The fair that started as a helping hand to families in need has blossomed into a huge community event.
Children, parents and grandparents stood in lines that stretched around the massive former West Virginia Penitentiary, waiting to get into the Mollohan Building where the annual Back To School Fair is held.
It offers everything a child could possibly need for school, all under one roof.
It's best known for the school supplies--back packs, pencils, pens, notebooks, scissors and glue.
In these hard economic times, founder Susie Baker saw the need for this 11 years ago, when students lacked basic hygiene supplies.
"There were kids going home from school the first part of the school year maybe with hygiene issues or health issues or head lice issues and I wanted to do a fair where we could check heads and give free haircuts and have kids ready for the first day of school," says Baker.
They offer shampoo, deodorant, socks, underwear as well as dental check-ups.
But the kids' favorite items seem to be the school supplies.
"Back packs and pencils and everything else!" says 10-year-old Nakitta Hooker.
"Probably a back pack and different supplies, like a binder and different stuff that you can use for multi-purpose," says 11-year-old Jarrod Yocum.
The vendors bring in their wares and everything is free.
Baker credits friends and family for providing it all, including her friend Tony Summers, broadcasting teacher at John Marshall High School.
"Well for the past two years my friends at TNA Wrestling have donated a lot of money from a live event we have at the field house where we have thousands of wrestling fans pack the field house for a night of great TNA wrestling and thanks to their kindness we are able to raise thousands of dollars," Summers explains.
The Marshall County Sheriff's Department was on hand with fingerprinting and safety information.
And a life-size character named Buster The Bus was teaching transportation safety.
The fair was four hours long.
Officials say with the strained economy, the fair provides everything a child needs for a successful school year.
