“I grew up with Scoops,” said Mr. Hall who went to school with the original owners’ daughter.

Scoops offers a variety of ice cream flavors and toppings to its customers.

“Over the course of the year we have over 40 different flavors and 10 to 12 toppings,” he said.

Flavors such as swamp, mud, mint chip, chocolate, vanilla, coffee and others are almost always available, said Mr. Hall.

Besides ice cream there are Italian ices, ice cream pies, shakes, sherbet and frozen yogurt.

This week, Madison Knoop of Redding enjoyed her swamp ice cream.

“It’s really good,” she said.

Mr. Hall is glad there aren’t many competing ice cream stores in town, he said. Their summer hours are in full effect, open Monday through Friday 11 a.m.. to 10 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday noon to 10.

“It’s wonderful ice cream in a neat little spot. I enjoyed going and I enjoy owning it,” said Mr. Hall.

Another place in town is Roly Poly sandwich shop at 14 Danbury Road in the Gateway Shopping Center. Besides soups, salads and wraps, customers may enjoy Roly Yo, a low-calorie, non-fat, frozen yogurt.

Jeremy Kosh, the owner of the Wilton store, said they carry four different flavors that alternate.

“We always offer original tart and we’ll switch out the other flavors in our soft serve machine,” he said. The other flavors are strawberry, banana, chocolate, and cookies ’n cream.

With the summer’s recent heat wave the frozen yogurt has been very popular, Mr. Kosh said.

“It’s our first year so it’s a trial-and-error process. We’d like to do more than two flavors but right now it’s the original tart and one of the other popular flavors,” he said.

Customers may also add a variety of toppings at no extra cost.

“We have sprinkles, chocolate chips, craisins, walnuts, strawberries, blueberries, flax seed and coconut,” he said. “We also have chocolate syrup.”

Roly Poly is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. They also deliver Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
