Another great show ahead at Lift-Off 2011

Year after year, Kinsmen Cornwall Lift-Off organizers either match or exceed the quality of musicians booked from the previous year. Although Lift-Off is not only about the bands that grace our bandshell in beautiful Lamoureux Park, the music certainly is the highlight of the festival each and every year.

The hot air balloon rides are certainly a thrill if you’re into that kind of thing. The view of the massive balloons flying high in the sky is also very neat from the ground below. If you don’t mind heights and you want to see what the Seaway Valley looks from hundreds of feet above, the balloon rides are for you.

The midway is always a big part of Lift-Off. The Zipper, ferris wheel, bumper cars, the kiddie train, scooter and apples ride are just a few of many rides and games to choose from. The kids’ zone also provides fun and excitement for youngsters and sometimes even the adults. Although there is a special zone for adults: under the tent.

But honestly, when it comes to Lift-Off, it’s really all about the guitars, basses, drums, keyboards, pianos and vocals. Each year, there is such a variety of musical performers that everyone seems to be satisfied. Not only is there variety, but the artists are getting better and the bigger names are now coming and nearly all of them are Canadian!

The past six years of Lift-Off has definitely seen its fair share of quality headlining acts: David Wilcox, Glass Tiger, Loverboy, Colin James, Alannah Myles, Tom Cochrane, Sass Jordan, April Wine, Theory of a Deadman (great show), Finger Eleven, Randy Bachman and the only American act, Dennis DeYoung.

In 2010, Lift-Off organizers hit the nail on the head with current talent as Our Lady Peace (OLP) rocked the stage on opening night and Jarvis Church was featured on Saturday evening. OLP lead singer Raine Maida’s wife, Chantal Kreviazuk, closed out Lift-Off 2010 in fine fashion as she wooed the crowd with her beautiful vocals, piano and personality.

And now we arrive to Kinsmen Cornwall Lift-Off 2011.

Canadian Music Hall of Fame inductees April Wine are back. They are such a fan favourite with tracks like “Just Between You and Me” and “Oowatanite” it seems like if they would play every year (and sometimes it does seem that way) Cornwallites would not complain at all.

Sarnia Ontario’s Kim Mitchell will hit the stage on Saturday night. Mitchell won the Juno Award for Male Vocalist of the Year in 1990 and will likely perform his hit singles like “Go for Soda” and “Patio Lanterns.
