Three people were injured in a head-on collision on Highway 12 at Pecan Street Friday afternoon. The State Patrol reports that a westbound 1998 Honda Civic crossed the centerline at Pecan Street and struck an eastbound 2007 Toyota Avalon head-on about 4:45 PM. Debris from the crash struck a 2002 Dodge Ram pickup pulling a trailer. The driver of the Honda, Kory J. Hardcastle, 20 of Tumwater, was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. The two Olympia residents in the Toyota were transported to St. Peter Hospital. They have been identified as 77-year-old William C. Myers (who was driving) and 74-year-old Carol M. Myers. No body in the Dodge was injured. The Trooper report indicates that the cause of this collision was inattention and charges are pending.A man beaten on a Tumwater Street early this month has died. Ronald Kevin Smith, 60 of Tumwater, died July 23 at Tacoma General Hospital. The man arrested for the crime, 22-year-old Michael Miles, already faces charges of first-degree assault and robbery. And he might be charged with first-degree murder. The Thurston County Prosecutor's Office is waiting for eveidence from the Pierce County Medical Examiner. Smith was found lying on West Lee Street just after midnight July 5th. Smith was so badly injured that detectives initially couldn’t tell whether he had been struck by a car or beaten. Smith remained unresponsive and was unable to tell detectives what happened to him, police said. A tip led police to Miles, who reportedly admitted to assaulting Smith and steeling his wallet and cell phone.

Ritchey was arrested and is in Thurston County Jail on suspicion of attempted second-degree murder and second-degree abandonment of a dependent person. At a court hearing last Wednesday, a judge set her bail at $50000.

Ronald Kevin Smith of Tumwater died July 23 at Tacoma General Hospital.
His alleged assailant, 22-year-old Michael Miles, faces charges of first-degree assault and robbery.
Miles might be charged with first-degree murder, said Scott Jackson, Thurston County deputy prosecutor. He said hes waiting on evidence from the Pierce County Medical Examiners Office, which is conducting the autopsy.
Police found Smith just after midnight July 5 lying on West Lee Street. Smith was so badly injured that detectives initially couldnt tell whether he had been struck by a car or beaten. Smith remained unresponsive and was unable to tell detectives what happened to him, police said.
A tip led police to Miles, said Tumwater Police Detective Jen Kolb. According to court papers, Miles told someone he had assaulted Smith and stolen his wallet and cellphone. He reportedly admitted in a jailhouse interview that he had assaulted the man when he became enraged by a comment and described stomping on the mans head.
Kolb said that Miles attack on Smith was random, and that the men didnt know each other.
Miles, a transient, previously had been arrested on suspicion of theft, malicious mischief, drinking in public and assault in Olympia as well as Stockton and Lodi, Calif.
According to an obituary placed by the family, Smith was born in Olympia and graduated from Tumwater High School in 1969. He was a state employee for more than 20 years before retiring in 1998.
A celebration of his life will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1925 Boulevard Road, Olympia.
